When I started into this crazy world of photography SIX years ago, I had NO idea where to even start! I tried asking photographers I had used in the past and googling until my little heart was content or my eyes felt like they were going to fall out of my head, BUT I was just so overwhelmed. What gear do I need, how do I attract the right people for me, what do I charge, where is that location, what actions are they using, how are these people not spending every waking minute in front of a computer, and WHY DON’T MY PICTURES LOOK LIKE THAT?!?!? It felt like I spent every waking minute trying to figure it out and editing pictures that I just wished looked “different.” Is anyone out there stuck in this same place? Want some help out of that rut?!?!? Then this workshop is just for you!
So here it is, my first ever family photography workshop, Picture It Perfect! I am so excited that I can barely contain myself. Picture what perfect you ask….well, your entire business. I started off doing family photography for my friends, slowly started charging, and spending 10 hours on one session! TEN HOURS! It was insane. I hand edited everything. I delivered everything. I charged next to nothing. It was so hard and I wished so badly that I could just wrap my mind around all the details and components that went into running a successful business. Let me share with you what I learned along the way to not only help run a successful business, but do it so it is not running you!!
We will be offering a 1.5 day workshop this fall on Sept 8-9. We will start out by holding a small mini session at sunset in one of my favorite locations so you can get hands on experience on how to nail a family session…offering your clients a variety of posed and candid shots. Before everyone arrives, we’ll go over all the aspects that go into making each session a success and fun experience for your client then we will finish afterwards with a Q&A over provided dinner. The next morning, we will meet back up to edit those sessions from download to delivery….working through everything I use to edit and how to fix everyday problems you might have with your images. By the end, you will be able to create some beautiful portfolio images.
After working through the sessions, we will hit up all things business. Well, almost all things. We will go over how I do my website and blog, why they are both important, and how they tie into SEO. We will cover social media and how to take full advantage of it. I will show you how I keep track of finances, clients, sessions, schedules, etc. I’ll give you a list of the vendors I use and love, marketing I have tried and which ones worked for me, and anything else I can think of that would be helpful to get your business on the right track.
